Hill Havurah is an independent, member-driven Jewish community rooted in Capitol Hill. We come together to create meaningful Jewish life – grounded in tradition, responsive to the present, and shaped by those who gather here. At our core, we are a community built on connection: to one another, to Jewish practice, and to the world around us.
Hill Havurah began as a small group of Jewish neighbors on Capitol Hill coming together to build something meaningful – an independent, community-driven congregation rooted in connection and shared responsibility. What started as a handful of committed “pioneers” has grown over more than two decades into a vibrant and evolving community serving people across Washington DC.
Today, we remain grounded in that same spirit: shaped by our members, responsive to change, and committed to creating Jewish life that feels welcoming and relevant.
We believe Jewish life should be accessible, inclusive, and deeply human. We value learning and curiosity, tradition alongside innovation, and the idea that belonging does not require prior knowledge or a particular path. Our community is strengthened by the diversity of those who walk through our doors.
